James P. Marro, MD, FAAOS
Board-Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon
Originally from New York City, Dr. Marro received a B.S. and B.A. degree in marine geology, marine chemistry and chemistry from Long Island University at Southampton College. He was employed as a senior analytic chemist for Sun Chemical in New York, prior to obtaining his M.D. degree from New York Medical College. His orthopaedic surgical residency was performed at New York Medical College, in New York City and Westchester.
After completing his orthopaedic residency, Dr. Marro was commissioned as a Major in the United States Air Force and stationed in Oklahoma City. He became clinical instructor for Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation at Oklahoma Health Science Center and the V.A. Hospital, as well as chief of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma.
In 1997 Dr. Marro started practice in Orangeburg, SC where he practiced until 2000. He then assisted a South Georgia hospital develop an orthopaedic surgery program. He returned to Orangeburg in December 2001 and is an original member of South Carolina Orthopaedic Institute. He has served as one of the team physicians for SC State University and as one of the team physicians of Orangeburg Preparatory School. Dr. Marro concentrates on total joint replacement, sports medicine and orthopaedic trauma.
Dr. Marro has been certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery since 1996, and has been a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery since 1998.
